Eastside Bike Network is a coalition of organizations and individuals on the Eastside of Seattle (Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Bothell, Renton, Woodinville, Issaquah, Kenmore, Sammamish) that advocates for a safe, interconnected and inclusive active transportation network designed for all people, including pedestrians, cyclists and people on any form of rolling device.
The Eastside Bike Network coalition envisions a region where:
- People of all ages, incomes, abilities and backgrounds have access to an active transportation network that effectively and safely connects homes with work, school, shopping, recreation, entertainment and other destinations
- Local and regional transportation investments help address our most pressing challenges, including climate change, housing affordability and inequity
- Our communities pilot and implement Best Practices in transportation policy, health, sustainability, and governance
Position Statements:
- Streets serve many purposes and all people on the Eastside should have access to connected roads and trails that get them safely from where they are to where they need to go regardless of how they get there.
- Roads and streets on the Eastside serve people, not cars.
- Equity is the heart of this effort. We need to clearly define what that means.
- The Leafline Network is the infrastructure backbone of this effort.
- A safe and inclusive network can only be achieved if/when we build safe infrastructure that feeds into and out of the Leafline trails from and to neighborhoods, employee centers and retail areas.
